چکیده

Acoustic Web Navigator (AWN) is a prototype of an application for web browsing where structural, graphical, and text elements of web pages appear as a sound map under user’s mouse pointer or tab/arrow keys. It could serve as accessibility tool, as an interface for devices with limited visualization capabilities, for telerobotics, for sonic iconography, for development of other auditory-object interfaces and managers. AWN differs from existing browsers for the blind like WebbIE, WeMedia browser, Homer and other webpage readers, which mainly have verbal interfaces speaking only text to the user. This paper formulates the main directions of the research and proposes an AWN model to be developed as research evaluation. Requirements for the research and evaluation model are combined with various approaches to the problems of: web browser adaptations, accessibility, multimodal interfaces, image recognition, sound objects, sound browsing, immersive sonic environments, aural representation of spatial objects and their recognition. This paper describes a sketch-model of an acoustic navigator demonstrated at KKH spring exhibition.

A Study of the Feasibility and Effectiveness of Dual-Modal Information Presentations

Multimodal interfaces with both visual and auditory output are becoming important, especially for applications using small-screen displays and for user access under mobile conditions. The research presented here investigated the feasibility of simultaneously presenting distinct textual information through both visual and auditory channels by examining two multimodal interfaces with irrelevant o...

Flexible Audio Streams

Tremendous research effort was invested in audio browsers and machine learning techniques to decode the structure of Web pages in order to put them into an audio format. In this paper, we address a simpler and efficient solution for the creation of an audio browser of VOICEXML generated from RSS/Atom stream feeds. We developed a multimodal (audio and graphical) portal application that offers RS...

A Multimodal Approach for Orientation and Navigation in 3D Scenes

In recent years research on computer human interaction has developed new concepts for communicating information between users and computers; graphic bi-dimensional interfaces, the most used convention to interact with a personal computer today, have been widely studied and a number of solutions characterized by a strong degree of stability and maturity have been implemented. Interaction in 3d e...

A Constraint-Based Graph Visualisation Architecture for Mobile Semantic Web Interfaces

Multimodal and dialogue-based mobile interfaces to the Semantic Web offer access to complex knowledge and information structures. We explore more fine-grained co-ordination of multimodal presentations in mobile environments by graph visualisations and navigation in ontological RDF result structures and multimedia archives. Semantic Navigation employs integrated ontology structures and leverages...

Modality-specific Affective Responses and their Implications for Affective BCI

Reliable applications of multimodal affective brain-computer interfaces (aBCI) require a detailed understanding of the processes involved in emotions. To explore the modality-specific nature of affective responses, we studied neurophysiological responses of 24 subjects during visual, auditory, and audiovisual affect stimulation and obtained their subjective ratings. Coherent with literature, we...
